  1. First of all I’d like to say that I was surprised to hear about such festival in the movie industry. On the one hand it has the strange place of holding, the country itself is not supposed to be an eminent one in film production, the awards (eggs) is seemed to be a little bit funny. But, on the other hand if such a festival is organized by famous Serbian film director Emir Kusturica we may be sure that it is held on the high level.

The second think that also makes me excited is the goal of the festival: “the reincarnation of the 1970s and 1980s, when cinema was a combination of entertainment and art.” I am sure with this motto. To my mind it is the era of the blossom of the Soviet film industry too. Let’s remember such films like “Operaziya Y i Drugie Priklucheniya Shurika” (The X Operation and other Shurik’s adventures*), “Ivan Vasilevich Meniaet Professiyu” (The Ivan’s Change*), “12 Stylev” (12 Seats) and many many others.

It’s a pity that today the whole movie is like the race of armaments. All the companies try to be the best than others making 3D films with visual effects and animated graphics though the viewers want to see how the tear drops from the eye of the actor. That’s why the holographic fight between Kusturica and Bruce Willis in which the festival host’s triumph symbolized a win for auteur cinema over Hollywood blockbusters.

To sum it up I dare say that the Serbian festival is closer to me than The Vinice International Film Festival, The Berlin International Film Festival, The Cannes Film Festival and even The Academy Awards, informally known as The Oscars because Balcanians and we are The Slavs and we are quick to understand each other.

    * - Don’t be prejudicial to my own names of the films, I’ll try to make it easy to read for foreigners.
