  1. My impression of the movie Absence of Malice, (1981)

I like this movie very much. It is a very powerful story about how the press and overreaching Federal Government can ruin people’s lives without being absolutely sure they are printing the truth. Paul Newman plays Michael Gallagher, an honest but tough private citizen whose deceased father was a bootlegger. An ambitious FBI agent leaks it to the press that Michael Gallagher is under investigation for the death of a labor leader. The press runs with it and suddenly Gallagher's life is being besmirched on the front page of the newspapers. As this process continues lives are ruined, Gallagher's business is decimated, and more would be telling. All in all, the impact of what is in print and how lives are impacted - perhaps even ended - make this a compelling film. I think, this movie is worth watching to anyone interested in how reporters and editors operate.

  2. I opted for the film “The Paper”(1994) and I can say that I like it very much. Many themes such as the choices between job and family, truth and principles, relationships and duties were mentioned in the film. I was interested in the main character Henry’s life. His pregnant wife, job’s problems and desire to dig out the truth are filled all his ordinary days. Henry put the job in the first place but the circumstances changed his mind. At the same time I saw an old man, Henry’s boss, who has opted for the job and has lost his family. I guess that one of the most important issue of “The Paper” is to learn how organize priorities in the right way. Moreover, I recognized that the work in the mass media is really difficult, nervous and sometimes harm another people. I had enjoyable two hours, thank you, Yulia Borisovna, for this film!

  4. I have watched the fim "Capote" (2005) and I like it, although it has left painful impression on me. Sometimes people get into a bad fit of fame, that can destroy other people's lives. Capote was famous novalist, but having read the article about a cruel murdor in Kansas, decided to write a novel and state his version of the event. He moved to Kansas to speak with murders, and carefully questioned one of them (Perry) to learn more details. But the writer showed any emotions neither for the event, nor the condemned, he only waited for the end (murders' execution), that was stayed because of hearing of the case, and that vexed Capote. But everything went wrong when Truman had understood how important his role was in Perry's life: Capote could hire a lawyer for the appeal for pardon. The writer just used him and only not long before Perry's capital punishment, his death started to grieve and depressa Capote. The book wasn't finished. So we all know about Code of Ethics, and one of its principles is minimize harm. And Capote had to recognize that gathering and reporting information could cause harm. Moreover, pursuit of the news was not a license for arrogance.

  5. My choice was the film "Capote". This film impressed me very much with its plot and performance of actors. The plot of this movie tells us about very deep and tangled relationships between famous journalist and writer Truman Capote and offender Perry Smith who commited murder. At the first sight it seemed to me difficult to understand but now I can guess that this film taches upon the problem of public misunderstanding and loneliness.Society considered Perry as a monster who desrved the death. But in fact, Perry appeared a vulnerable person who needs of protection. Perry lost his family and was lonely. Capote was the only one who was interested in his life and feelings so that's why Perry became very attached to journalist. I believe this film also shows us one of the breaches of Journalistic Ethics. This is a putting of brands(клеймо). Unfortunately, not every journalist is able to write the truth (like Capote).

  6. My impression of the movie “The Year of Living Dangerously” (1982).

I like this movie very much. It is a blend of romance, action, intrigue and political machinations. The cast is superb: Mel Gibson, Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hunt. Set against the backdrop of Suharto's regime in the Philippines, Mel Gibson plays an investigative Australian reporter hunting stories against martial law uprising. Sigourney Weaver does a great job as a diplomatic attaché and possible spy. The real treat was Linda Hunt, as Billy, a photographer and idealist who pins his hopes on Guy (Mel Gibson) as a friend who can grasp the deeper, human issues in Indonesia and not just skim the surface as another Western journalist, trying to make his mark reporting on an unstable political scene. The film is not only a good view into the politics of Southeast Asia, but is a great story about a young man getting a baptism by fire as a naive journalist. If you haven't seen it, you should do it for a real treat.

  7. My impression of the movie "Almost Famous 2000" .This film really impressed me. It's the story about a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine. He met a rock band named Stillwater and travelled with that guys. A boy has very strict mother who tried to made him to avoid bad influence of that time (drugs, alcohol).
Young journalist dived into the world of rock-music and felt it from the inside. I like this movie because it filled with the atmosphere of the youth and freedom.

  9. I've watched the film "Almost Famous" (2000) and really liked it. Here we can find several problems like a feeling of responsibility; family and I mean not a usual family which includes your mother, father, brother, etc., but the group "Stillwater" as the family, where everybody has his rights and opinion, and all decisions are taken collectively; love; friendship. But as we are speaking about journalism, the most important thing here is one of standards of this profession. And I mean that a journalist should seek truth and report it. People always say that they want to know the truth, and when read it in the newspaper they refuse to believe it. The same situation we can see in the film, where a young journalist wrote the article about a popular rock'n'roll group "Stillwater", but nobody believed him. He just wanted to be honest and merciful.

  10. “Almost Famous”. I can’t say that this film is one of the best films I ever seen but anyway I like it. I like it for freedom, music, relationship, love, truth. The main characters, band StillWater, live without rules, restrictions and liabilities, they just want to become famous and play good music. William is their opposition, he lives with the strict mother and dreams to be a good journalists. By coincidence he is to accompany StillWater to make a good article. And plunging into their atmosphere he recognizes lot of things about these men but can’t include them into the article because StillWater trust him, William can’t be honest and disturb the rule of journalist ethics. However the permission from one of the StillWater’s members William tells truth, he becomes a good journalist.

  12. "The paper"
I like this film. First of all it shows the whole truth about the profession of the journalist and how this ot that news become the first page one. At the beginning of the film we get know about Henry's life - he is a metro editor of the New York Sun, about his pregnant wife, a former journalist and a problem of choice whether to leave the Sun and become an assistant managing editor at the New York Sentinel or not. I also like the way the film director gives us to know through the conversation between all collegues in the office all of how they choose the news to be on the first page (sometimes it is very cynical while they are talking about many people's death just like about the weather, but is is their JOB). Another main character is a Henry's boss, Graham Keighley is devoted all his life only to a job, but then he tried to establish good relations with his daughter and i think it is the right decision - better late than never! I believe that Ron Howard shows one character but in different periods of time - Hanry with the problem of choice between a family and work, and Graham Keighley - a person Hanry would become (if he continues to go home at 4 a.m. and spend little time with his family). However, at the end of the film Hanry understood the real values while his wife is resuscitated and her life as well as baby's one in a danger...All ends well - the newborn and his mother are OK and the article about innocence of two Afro American teenagers is published...
So, beside the theme of the journalist job, the problem of choice between a family and a job, principles and truth are raised. The screenplay is terrific, with thoughtful dialogs which sometimes make me think, sometimes laught... Anyway they cause feelings... Every character is well-drawn and each actor is immersed much in their characters.

  13. "Almost Famous"
My impression on the movie, which I've seen, which is called 'Almost famous'.
So, what to say, I like it! All the actors play great; there is a very interesting theme. What the director wants to show is shown. It shows us the whole picture of the journalist's job. It's a good movie. To my mind the film wants us to think about what is a job of an esthetic, really journalist for the journalist.
William, one of mains stars of the film, is the example of the word, which is madden by his mother. The word of austerity and conservative views. This world is William’s barrier to the world of musicians. His world is opposite to the world of the musicians. Who want only to have sex, drugs and Roc’n Rol. But William won’t be an honest journalist if he doesn’t tell the readers truth. But as we see, not all people are keeping their words.
William, as a young boy, places confidence in his new ‘friends’, but he has been deceived. In this case we may say that the main problem of the film is how to trust people. They can be journalists, musicians, teachers and many others, but first of all they are people, how they sacrifice very important things, such as career, study or relationships with relatives because they want to be in their live, live which is really interesting for them.

  14. The film I've recently watched is called 'Capote'. From the first minutes I thought what a splendid film and my opinion was the same until the end. The idea to tell the whole story in parallel really works. The film opens in Kansas with the discovery of four dead bodies of one family, at this time Truman Capote, a well known writer for The New Yorker learns about this violent murder. He is interested with the material and digs deeper into the story, and finally comes to a decision to write his greatest work. Being in Kansas, Truman Capote questions Perry Smith, a prisoner with a troubled history. It seems to me that, Truman Capote feels some compassion for Perry, I mean the killers' revelations have a great impact on Truman.
However, that feeling struggles with the author's intention to finish his book, which only an execution can provide. In the final episodes we realize that Truman Capote could actually help Perry, but he did not. The book itself was not finished.
'Capote' is a great film, but still it is dark and depressing. The cast gives a masterful performance, so I can say with no doubt that the film pleased me a lot.

  15. The Paper
I’d like to share with you about my opinion concerning the film which I’ve seen, called “The Paper” madden by Ron Horward. I like this film. It puts on show very important problems of journalist’s job. As for me, I take from this film such things as. For example if your husband a journalist you are searching the information whatever the weather even if you are expecting the baby, as a wife of the main character has to do. She helps him, she wants him to be promoted to his career success and to come back home as soon as it’s possible. On the other hand, if you are a journalist you ought to stay at work till the number of the paper won’t be put into the circulation, as Henry does. In this case he has to miss the meeting at the restaurant with his wife and his parents. So he sacrifices her feelings. And the third, Henry does as the honest journalist, as he is trying to find the true information about the crime, which has been madden, as many people suppose, by two young boys. The investigation gives him the truth. So he behaves as the ethics journalist. I like this film very much. It teaches us how the press works.
