  1. I've recently seen the film Erin Brockovich. It is about an unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city's water supply. The performance of actors was perfect! My favorite actress Julia Roberts play very professionally. She plays Erin as a woman who never stopped believing in herself and yet is deeply touched when others believe in her, too. She understands the way the people in Hinkley feel, mistrustful of lawyers and overwhelmed by the odds. She understands that "people want to tell their stories." And she has enough confidence in herself to know that, while she might not have been able to keep her beauty queen promise of ending world hunger, this is a promise she can keep. I think the film is strong evidence of the fact that it’s possible to fight against The System. The movie shows that every day we face troubles and misfortune .However, not every person could fight to the end and try to change the current state of things. I guess, that with the help of such people, the world will become better.

  2. ‘The day after tomorrow’. I consider this film is quite urgent today, in the conditions of global warming. Scientists, led by Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), predicted global warming, which is expected only after a few years. But nature has its own plans: the Earth was on the verge of a new boulder-period and covered with three huge cold cyclones in a few days. Natural disasters followed one by one: huge hailstones with orange size, prolonged heavy rains, tornadoes and heavy snowfalls. Jack’s son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal), was in New York (which was covered with one of the cyclones: pouring rain, tsunami, and icing), as he came there to the Olympiad with his friends. In this situation the only way to survive was to hide in a well-heated place and wait out the storm, as evacuation was impossible there. But people, panic-stricken, and guided by the saving instinct, didn’t follow this advice and went out into the streets, where froze in a few minutes, caught by a storm. But in spite of that, in order to save his son, Jack went to New York from Washington on a snowy wilderness.
I really liked this film, although he kept me in constant suspense and even in fear, as this picture is quite real. The film ‘The day after Tomorrow’ shows how man is helpless before the raging elements, because they can destroy overnight everything that he has been creating for centuries.

  3. “FernGully: The Last Rainforest”. It was one of my favourite cartoons in my childhood. It’s not just a simple, silly kid’s cartoon which you watch without thinking of anything. “FernGully: The Last Rainforest” is multi-layered, it shows us the conflict between man's hunger for resources and the fragile rain forest environment. The action of the movie is set in a large rainforest inhabited by fairies. They think humans are dead, until a bat Batty tells them the opposite. There are two main characters: Zak, a human surfer who cuts rainforest to build a road, and a fairy Crysta, who shrinks him to her size and introduces to the magical world that he is destroying. Zak changes his mind and starts helping Crysta to save the forest. And, of course, in the end of the movie nature wins.
I’m deeply impressed by this cartoon not only because of the deep sense it conveys, but also by its animation and music which are wonderful. The animation is good, with rich colors and fantastic visual images of the forest. I love the overall look of the film. Moreover, the characters are well designed and funny, especially the bat Batty. It’s an interesting movie which anybody can enjoy (not only kids). It can teach you something good, e.g. the environment should be protected, we should take care of others and learn that they cannot always help you and that sometimes other people even need you, e.g. the rainforest which need help and protection. So, if you haven’t still watch “FernGully: The Last Rainforest” you should do it as quickly as possible!

  4. "Free Willy" is the first film of the three. It shows neither a possibility nor consequences of global warming and the Apocalypse, but how people are merciless to the nature. The film tells about killer whale Willy and his friend Jesse. A few years ago, Willi was caught by poachers and sold in the local amusement park. The owners wanted to make money on it, as killer whales are so easily amenable to training. But Willi, because of ill-treatment and separation from the family, did not submit. That’s why the owners, having realized that they didn’t benefit from him alive, decided to kill the whale, having received a huge amount of money. Only the boy Jesse could make friends with the killer whale and free him. However, that wasn’t the end…
So, the film tells us about people’s cruelty, about their efforts to cash in on the murder of animals. Another problem, which is shown in the film, is poaching, which has always been and will be a major problem, as no law has ever stopped such people.

  5. Free Willy 2 is the continuation of the already mentioned by me film about the killer whale. Several years after the «liberation» Willi with his family came back to his old friends, but that time, not only whales but the whole ocean were in danger. Animals, birds, and plants might become extinct because of the ecological catastrophe: the old tanker, carrying oil, run upon a reef, thereby throwing a huge amount of liquid into the ocean. Jesse with his friends tried to save the whales, not only from the oil, but also from the ship-owner, who, taking advantage of the situation, planned to catch the killer whales from the ocean and sell them on the safety rate.
Free Willy 3 has similar idea with the first film, and it’s poaching. One day John Wesley, whaler, decided to take his son with him, to teach him the «art» of killing whales. At first, the boy took the father’s work as granted: he killed to feed the family. However, after a meeting with Willy and his friend Jesse, he realized that the work was illegal, unnatural, and what’s most important, it was cruel. One of the «hunting» days the man fell overboard, being surrounded by the killer whales, but they are killers and rancorous by nature. Only his son’s friendship with the whale saved his life.
I really like all three films; each time, while watching them, tears well up in my eyes. All of them show the problem not only strong friendship, family, love, duty and responsibility, but also environmental problems. The Director opened the question that the man is the cause of all disasters, and even if he tries to help the animals, they perceive it as a threat. But the most terrible thing is that people find benefits for themselves from any catastrophe, not realizing how it will affect the environment.

  6. I happened to watch “Avatar” in 3D, and I honestly can say, it’s an amazing movie! The action of the movie is set on the planet Pandora, which humans try to occupy in order to mine precious resources that could solve the ecological crisis on Earth. However, their plans are disorganized by an indigenous race the Na'vi, whose village is placed just on top of the rare minerals they need. To solve this problem, ex-Marine Jake Sully is send in the body of an Avatar to gain the Na'vi's trust and get them immigrate. Jake discovers the new world of the Na'vi, meets a beautiful Na'vi woman Neytiri, who teaches him the values that her race shares. Jake starts to see the world through her eyes, and realizes how much this new world matters to the Na'vi and to him and fights to protect his new race from extinction.
All in all, the film is absolutely fascinating, interesting, entertaining and emotional. . The special effects are so amazing that Pandora looks like a real location. Attention to details is superb. The wild life, the jungle, the animals, the Na'vi-s, or the dragon-like flying creatures are all so life-like, you feel them pop-off the screen (and in 3D they actually do it). I think “Avatar” is a must-see movie, innovative and extraordinary, and though it is a bit long (almost 3 hours) you do not notice it, because it holds your attention to the end. I think since “Titanic” it is the best creation of James Cameron. He deserves only high praise for his “Avatar”.

  7. I cannot but tell you about a touching, amazing and sad movie “Wall-E”. The director showed us our planet of an apocalyptic future dominated by endless landscapes of garbage. There is no people, forest, river, and anything remaining life. Though no, a cockroach could survive in this chaos. Robot Wall-E was designed to clean up a waste-covered Earth and he fell in love with another robot named Eve. Wall-E gifted a growing seedling plant to her and she was returned to Axiom, the spaceship with people. But those people were stupid, helpless and very fat. Only their Captain decided to return to the Earth and save it from garbage. So, despite the fact that it is an animated cartoon, it has a great sense. We are destroying the Earth and only thing is going to happen is apocalypse. If we do not want to only a robot and a cockroach live in our planet, we should stop harming it.

  8. If I had seen “The Day After Tomorrow” some years ago, I would have been liked it. It is a science fiction disaster film about the influence of global warming. The Americans showed that our world would be waited it the weather decides to avenge people. I think that the director has good imagination to create such film with consistent events of destroying the Earth. Good for him for the effects. The main sense of the movie probably was to show people what will happen with us tomorrow because of our activity. It is a good idea but it is not my cup of tea, I do not like films like this nowadays. Nevertheless, I hope that the bright pictures of the possible future influenced people, especially people, who are responsible for that. From my point of view, every person should watch this film in order to see the scenario of the Earth’s future.

  9. The first movie I have decided to watch is An Inconvenient Truth. So, I think that it is the film from “must-see” category. How do I understand the meaning of the title& It was perfectly revealed to me during the viewing. The truth about the real condition of the Earth is inconvenient to everyone, and some of us try to hide it, while others prefer simply to disregard it. The problem of the environment is shown from two opposite points of view. From the one hand we see Al Gore who does all his best to educate the public about the severity of the climate crisis. His film discloses the real situation on the environmental issues, while this true is very inconvenient from his opponents – owners of factories, newspapers, and others for whom it is very profitable. They follow the principle “that has nothing to do with me”, I think that the film director, Davis Guggenheim, shows the perception of life of the major part of our modern world society by their example. Of course, there is no nothing new about this problem, but I really like the way it was aroused. I am in deep sympathy with Al Gore character, he is the generalized personalization of the person who cares about the future and tries to do something with the present. The one thing (it is sooo typical for all American movies) is unwarranted Americanism. When they were talking about the global warming, only Alaska was mentioned, but its consequences may be found all over the globe. As the Russian, I was waiting to hear some commentaries about the situation in Russia, but Gore didn’t say any word about it, as it doesn’t exist. I think that such director move is impermissible one because it contradicts the main purpose of the film – to connect people for the Earth protecting and struggling against pollution, waste and so on. All in all, I like it, but, please, be critical, as to any other source of information.

  10. The second film I have chosen if the China syndrome. And now, after the viewing, I ask all of you to watch it too, be sure, you won’t feel sorry for it! It is so symbolic and dramatical film which had a great influence on the society of that time…even today, it remains the topical one, Fukushima, Chernobyl are the grievous examples of it…In spite of the fact there is nothing unusual with the film setting, it totally attracted my attention and made the good impression. It MUST be mentioned about actors performing, probably the film is so attractive mainly because of it, especially Jack Lemmon’s acting. The film reveals the real nature of the society and the laws it lives(whether democratic or not). There is No Freedom of the press at all! It was in 1980s, and it is going on now…the main principle for me I judge this or that film is the fact whether it provokes feelings and emotions. From this point of view the movie is excellent! I was sooo angry during the viewing because of people’s indifference, avidity and their wish to make some profits from anything which cause so harmful effects on our planet… I hope with all my heart that now there are also people like Jack Lemmon’s character…To sum it up, I may say that the film is full of very emotional scenes and tense episodes. Even when the credits were showed at the end of the film, I continued to sit without any movement thinking about so many things…

  11. The third film I have decided to watch is “Erin Brockovich”. In spite of my friends’ negative references to the movie , now, after the viewing, I remain of the opinion that it is the good one on the whole. It turned out to be the high-quality drama which tells the story of an unmarried mother who finds time not only to look after her child but also participate in solution of different environmental issues. The setting is rather trite but Robert’s performing made the film special or even charming. She proves that she is not “a girl who plays a streetwalker in the “Pretty Woman””, but the great actress. Her character is the strong and weak at the same time, but she simply has to be strong and hide all her fear and weaknesses. Probably, she is not the genius and some people consider her as the woman who just sticks her nose into other people's affairs, but finally she overcomes all difficulties with dignity. Her attraction to other people’s destiny is impressed me deeply and this feature of her character helps to reach the impossible things they believe – to beat her influential opponent, the corporation which harm and spoil people’s lives both in a direct and a figurative senses…the film sooo differs from today’s blog asters with the absence of shooting, pursuing, or breath taking scenes, but the fact doesn’t belittle the film director and actors crew services.

  12. The Day After Tomorroww

I have seen this film many years ago, but I still remember what it is about. The film impressed me greatly when I watched it for the first time. There are lots of important ideas are hidden in the film. You may choose any of them, but all in all, you are to follow that way of life, which can make you less harm.

On the one hand, this movie is on the front burner nowadays because of the coming global warming. This film is about this effect on the planet. I recommend to see this film to heads of big chimney-plants and factories. They will see where their activity will lead our planet. May be after the watching directors of big companies, which disgorge CO2 into the air, will install new expurgatory systems.

On the other hand it’s a very good film to heads of countries. The movie may teach them to listen to the scientists. Jack Hall, the hero of the film, warns the head of states, but Mr. President doesn’t listen to him. Sometimes it can happen, when people who have a power and money don’t listen those who have only theory, but the right theory.

And in conclusion I’d like to say that even if you are in a big trouble west-to-east of the Earth your parents will come to help you. It’s their instinct, it’s imposible to them live on the planet without their children.

I recommend you to watch this film. Hope You’ll like it.

  13. Avatar

This film is associated for me with 3D cinema. This technology just appeared the time the film was released. There was a long queue to buy tickets. It was my first film in such type. Truly speaking I didn’t like it: not the movie, but 3D technology and especially glasses – my eyes hurted from them. As for me, I prefer usual films in ordinary form.

Speaking about the film I may say that I like it. Sometimes it can be seemed to be too fantastic, but the idea is brilliant. We are not to interfere the life of other civilization. We don’t have any rights on it. As we see from the film humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi—a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora. In this case we may also say that we can’t take anything which don’t belong to us especially if it is located not on our territory.

According to the film, all the action take place in the mid-22nd century. Personally I think you can find any substitute to any goods that time. So, it’s not necessary to break on the life of humanoids. People may find other different ways to produce mineral resources or reduce the consumption of rare sources.

In conclusion I’d like to say that even you have the mission to help your country, but it runs false your life principles you have to do as your heart says to you. The example of the main character illustrates it to us.

  14. FernGully: The Last Rainforest

May be you think I go crazy, but actually it's not true. Yes this is cartoon, yes it's funny, yes there are not any kind of visual effects and so on, but what this film makes perfect is how the director shows us the ideas. As people from Caucasus Mountains usually say: "Krasavchik (Good-Lookin')" :D

From my point of view it's very nice of the director to put one the destroyers into the world which has to be destroyed. Anв as we see, as a result, the philosophy of that young man has been changed under the influence of the young witch and beautiful magic world. So we can come to conclusion that sometimes we don't really realize what we did, do and are going to do. Only when we are in a certain community which is formed by a special idea we can understand our deeds.

All in all after watching this film I arrive at a decision that we are to do our best to protect our planet and to put all corrosive forces into beautiful trees, lakes and seas which one day will form forests, meadows and oceans.
