Do you think Sandy has anything to do with global warming? Why/ why not?

Find an article on global warming (no older than 6 months) and render it in your blog!

  1. I think that any environmental changes which happen in the world are somehow connected with global warming. Even those processes, which seem to be the opposite ones - for example cold winters or snowfall in some areas, which are unusual for it. And Sandy, undoubtedly being the environmental "event" is not exception. I believe that everything is related with everything. Not only all environmental changes are in connection, but all human activities have a great influence on the planet and its (and our!!!) future. The bigger aims are achieved in the development of scientific and technological progress (which should prove the human's power over the nature, but it is not so in fact), the more problems we have with the world around us. I don't want to make any predictions for the future because I am not the competent authority in this issue, but I think that Sandy is an excellent example of how the planet wants to say us - please, stop exploit me so ruinously! So, probably, Sandy is the evidence, in some way, that some process is launched, and, perhaps, irreversible one.

  2. As for me, I think that Sandy (as well as the Russian heat wave and Pakistani floods of 2010) is somehow connected with global warming. The environment changed greatly in the last century which led to the increase of different hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunami. Besides, the ocean is rising relentlessly, and many scientists say this is a direct consequence of global warming. Warm water expands, just as warm air does, and the warming of the ocean is one factor behind the rise. Another is that land ice the world over is starting to melt as the climate grows warmer, dumping extra water into the ocean. So, all these climate changes are results of global warming. And the global warming, in its turn, is the result of scientific and technological progress. All in all, everything has a connection and now we pay the price for the increased human activity. It's hard for me to predict the course of events in future, but I know that if we do not want another "Ice Age" we should stop destroyng the planet (which is also our home by the way).

  3. I think that our environment greatly depends on people’s actions. And our actions lead to global warming. It, in its turn, influences the weather and leads to cataclysms. Sandy is just an example of what is going to happen in the earth if people do not reduce their bad influence on the environment. Nature gives people a chance to understand what they do and stop it till they can. However, it is difficult to stop global warming because the mechanism of it burnt up. People like civilization and progress but they do not understand that all of these things can kill them. Ice is melting, a level of greenhouse gases is increasing, animals are becoming extinct, and the climate is changing. We are living in the world with fewer opportunities to stay normal than earlier because of the influence of our civilization.

  4. Human activities cause climate change like increase in temperature. Many animal and plant species may be destroyed by climate change. Because many problems leading to global warming are caused or contributed to by overpopulation, people are beginning to work to reduce family sizes. Family planning services actually help in the fight against global warming. Education is a key method of reducing the greenhouse effect. By teaching people about such things as deforestation, environmental activists hope to prevent the problems that ultimately lead to global warming. Widespread media attention to the global warming problem is also increasing awareness. This is causing both individuals and governments to act more responsibly towards the environment.
To sum up, environmental problems should be handled by local and international authorities also. Every single person should take care of environment and moreover we have to bring up our children to be conscious citizens of a clean and preserved planet.

  5. I think, there are two possible answers this question. The first one is that Sandy can be a coincidence (during the period of global warming), and the second one is that it can be the consequence of global warming. It's an open secret that America is washed by three oceans (the Atlantic, the Arctic and the Pacific), and all cyclones form on a wide water surface that means that hurricanes, and floods as their result, are not rare for the USA. Besides, there were a lot of cyclones in the US history, and some of them are not inferior to Sandy. But it's also necessary to note that for this year the amount of natural calamities have been risen in the whole world; and Sandy became the 18th cyclone in this year. So I think, Hurricane Sandy is one of evidences of global warming.

  6. In the storm's aftermath, there have been a lot of discussions whether it was climate change to cause superstorm Sandy or not. Some people and scientists believe that it's unfair to blame climate change for Sandy and the destruction it left behind. But I am for the expert study, which said that climate change gave Sandy more teeth. Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea, quickly strengthened and was upgraded to Tropical Storm Sandy several hours later. They were the water temperature along the eastern seaboard and the cold weather system from Canada which morphed Sandy into a 'hybrid super storm.'Sandy is not just a freak weather occurrence. Its time for us to estimate the threat! If such accidents take place, we need to find the reasons for them, as well as probable ways to solve the environmental problems. All in all, I suppose that Sandy was a bigger, fiercer and more damaging storm because of human-induced global warming.

  7. Truly speaking, I can answer this question as exactly as a Swiss watch is working, because I am not a scientist, but I’ve read the article and I receive my personal opinion concerning this question.

As I understood, Sandy was the strongest storm for more that a century. And it was predicted for more than a dozen years by a group of scientists who have been warming about the risk for big storms and serious flooding in New York.

We have immediately a question: Why was not it been stopped if the prediction had been made many years before? It’s a fact that a 200 federal report about global warming’s effect on the United States warned specifically of that possibility.

On the one hand we may say that the storms have something common with global warming and it can be produced by this climate effect. To prove it I can give you the fact – “the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean, which is about 8 degrees Celsius warmer on average than a century ago” said Katharine Hayhoe, a climate scientist at Texas University.

By the way, the Atlantic hurricane season seems to be starting earlier and lasting longer. “There’s sea level rise. Water levels around New York are nearly 0.3 meter higher than they were 100 years ago” said pen State University climate scientist Michael Mann.

It’s a kind of paradox/ there is a tendency – as the climate warms – there will be fewer total hurricanes, but those storms that do develop will be stronger and wetter. The other unpredictable evidence is that Sandy left turn into New Jersey, though usually storms keep heading north and turn east harmlessly out to sea.

As we see, the weather today is difficult to predict. We can exactly to say that Sandy appeared as a result of global warming, because there are facts which illustrate us the other approach – that what developed Sandy is something new.

Climate is like our organism: it can be changed outside, or it can change itself inside. We are to control these processes. But we have to bear in our minds, that one day our children will live on the planet. So let’s not to polite it and help the nature, don’t wait when it helps itself.

  8. I guess Sandy is linked with global warming. And I even believe that this hurricane was caused by global warming. Any hurricane is the phenomenon which in turn is linked with emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Surely scientists would answer this question better than I but according to scientific researches and general news about Sandy (including the fact that this hurricane was one of the most severe), I can guess that Sandy should be considered as an omen of more serious and distructive changes.

  9. So, in my personal opinion, the nature is particularly unpredictable thing, scientists would never be able to predict everything , connected with some global future events. The coastline of the U.S. has always been a special "gravity point" to a variety of natural disasters. It is very expensive and difficult to arrange the whole coastline cities defense, flood protection or to redesign or rebuild different houses and buildings as fortified massifs. So, I think, it's practically impossible to predict very accurate the looming threat of elemental disaster. And every short of long step of our nature can be associated with the global warming. Because to y mind, it's also very unpredictable pattern. When the Earth gets tired from the human presence, or it's just period of time recorded in the huge database of the universe - it can attack itself with its most powerful weapon - the power of four elements. We can only believe, that after some decades or maybe centuries of technical progress - scientists would be able to prophesy more accurate measures of the changes in the world - with a chance to be ready to be prepared to meet the danger.
