January 25 marks the 75th anniversary of the birth of
singer, poet, and actor Vladimir Vysotsky, who died in 1980 at the age of 42.
Vysotsky is remembered throughout the former Soviet Union as a satirical critic
of the Soviet regime during 1960s and 1970s. Despite being labeled as
subversive, his songs spread widely through bootleg recordings, and he starred
